Skellefteå AIK is searching for a new forward following Oliver Okuliar's departure to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The move came in the final hours before the NHL signing window closed for SHL players. General manager Erik Forssell said the club is in a strong overall position despite the loss.
Oliver Okuliar completed a strong SHL season with the reigning champions before signing with Pittsburgh. Forssell acknowledged the impact but noted the team's depth remains solid.
The club will now review the market for a replacement. Forssell indicated that options are limited at present and any addition is most likely after the summer or once NHL training camps begin.
Skellefteå received positive news elsewhere as Pontus Johansson and Rickard Hugg will remain with the team for the coming season. Forssell added that the search will target the best available player rather than an exact match for Okuliar's profile.
