Valve has released a major Steam update that introduces custom categories for wishlists and enhances gifting options across the platform. The changes aim to make managing large wishlists easier and simplify sending games to others. All features are available now on PC, mobile, Steam Deck and Steam Machine.
The update allows users to create unrestricted custom categories for wishlisted games and assign both new and existing titles to them. Categories appear at the top of the wishlist page, and a single click filters the view to show only games in a selected category. The wishlist button on store pages now prompts users to choose a category when adding a game.
Notifications can be customised to apply only to chosen categories, and users can opt to receive alerts when a wishlisted game adds a demo. Microtrailers play on the wishlist page, search has been improved with faster autocomplete results, and navigation now returns users to their previous view after checking a game.
Gifting has also been expanded. Guest checkout now covers any game, not just hardware or gift cards. Games and digital gift cards can be sent directly to email addresses, with unclaimed gifts expiring after 30 days. Cross-region gifting now includes games, with Steam calculating regional pricing at checkout. Shared wishlist links can be set to open on a specific category.
