Stoic boards dark comedy Damned if You Do for EFM launch

Stoic has acquired the high-concept dark comedy Damned if You Do, starring Kate Siegel and Harvey Guillén, and plans to launch its worldwide sales at the European Film Market in Berlin. The film follows former teenage friends who sold their souls to the devil and must reunite decades later to escape their fate. Both leads also serve as executive producers on the project.

The upcoming dark comedy Damned if You Do centers on a group of friends who, as teenagers, made a pact with the devil by selling their souls. Now, decades later, they have achieved success in varied fields: one as a rock star, another as a tech mogul, and a third as a prominent activist. As the 25th anniversary of their high school reunion approaches, the contract's deadline looms, forcing the group to band together with an unexpected former classmate to evade Hell's hold before time runs out. Directed by newcomers Jake Rubin and Evan Metzold in their feature film debuts, the movie features a cameo from Mike Flanagan, who is married to co-star Kate Siegel. The ensemble cast includes Harvey Guillén, known for What We Do in the Shadows, and Siegel, from The Fall of the House of Usher, alongside Ginger Gonzaga of She-Hulk, Paulo Costanzo from Upload, Beth Dover of Orange Is the New Black, and Ed Weeks from The Mindy Project. Supporting roles are filled by Molly Bernard (Hit Man), Jillian Gottlieb (Soon By You), Matthew Stephen Smith (Too Hot to Handle), Liza Treyger (Survival of the Thickest), Ashley Austin Morris (Inventing Anna), and Genesis Oliver (FBI: Most Wanted). Production comes from Matthew R. Cooper and Uwakokunre (Kokie) Imasogie of Objectively Good Media, with Lior Haas. Executive producers are Rubin, Metzold, Siegel, Guillén, Gilad Haas, and Henry Russell Bergstein. Stoic, which is handling global sales, will present first screenings to buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin. Nat McCormick of Stoic praised the project, stating, “We’re thrilled to bring this hilarious and exceptionally well executed film to the world. The cast delivers comedy gold, and the premise is exactly the kind of elevated, genre-bending material that consumers around the world are hungry for.” This acquisition joins Stoic's EFM lineup, led by the Sundance hit Carousel with Chris Pine and Jenny Slate.
