Syracuse women's basketball faces Utah in showcase

The undefeated Syracuse women's basketball team heads to the Ivesco QQQ Women's Showcase to face Utah on Friday. Syracuse enters with a 4-0 record after a dominant 78-29 win over Wagner. Utah, at 3-1, presents a tough challenge with strong offensive numbers.

Syracuse University's women's basketball team, under head coach Felisha Legette-Jack, is set to play its first true road game of the season against Utah in the Ivesco QQQ Women's Showcase at the Hall of Fame Classic in Uncasville, Connecticut. The matchup is scheduled for Friday, November 21, 2025.

The Orange have started strong, going 4-0 with impressive defensive showings. Their most recent victory was a 78-29 rout of Wagner on Sunday, holding the opponent under 30 points for the first time since 2014 and marking the largest margin (49 points) in the Legette-Jack era. Syracuse's all home games so far have been at the JMA Wireless Dome.

Three players average double figures in scoring: senior guard Laila Phelia and graduate student Dominique Darius at 13.0 points per game, and freshman center Uche Izoje at 11.8 points on 67.7% field goal shooting. Phelia, a transfer from Texas and former All-Big Ten selection at Michigan, shot 48.6% from the field and 86.7% from the free-throw line, including a 22-point performance against Canisius on November 11. Darius, with Pac-12 experience from UCLA and USC, scored a career-high 21 points against Canisius and leads the team with 2.75 steals per game. Junior captain Sophie Burrows tops rebounding at 5.3 per game and contributed 11 points and 5 rebounds against Wagner, despite shooting 33.3% from the field early on.

Utah enters at 3-1 under second-year coach Gavin Petersen, averaging 78.5 points per game on 49.6% field goal shooting and 36.7% from three-point range, making 4.5 threes per contest compared to Syracuse's 3.5. The Utes have five players scoring between 6.0 and 13.0 points per game and lost their only game to No. 25 Kansas State. Syracuse faces No. 6 Michigan on Sunday at noon in the same arena for a tough weekend.
