Texas Rangers announce 2026 major league coaching staff

The Texas Rangers have finalized most of their 2026 Major League coaching staff under new manager Skip Schumaker. The staff includes several returnees from the previous year and new additions like former player Travis Jankowski as first-base coach. One position remains to be announced.

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced on Wednesday the majority of their 2026 Major League coaching staff, led by new manager Skip Schumaker, who was named to the role on October 3. This marks Schumaker's first season with the Rangers.

The staff features six returnees from the 2025 group. Luis Urueta returns as bench coach, and Dave Bush as assistant pitching coach. Corey Ragsdale shifts from first-base coach to third-base coach. Jordan Tiegs is promoted from bullpen coach to pitching coach, replacing Mike Maddux. Justin Viele moves up to lead hitting coach, succeeding Bret Boone. Brett Hayes transitions from quality control coach to catchers coach, filling the spot vacated by Bobby Wilson.

New hires include hitting coach Alex Cintrón, quality control coach Rod Barajas, first-base coach Travis Jankowski, and bullpen coach Colby Suggs. Cintrón joins after nine seasons with the Houston Astros, where he served as hitting coach from 2019-25. Under his guidance, the Astros led the American League in OPS (.764) and on-base percentage (.329), ranked second in batting average (.259) and slugging percentage (.435), and third in runs per game (4.90), home runs (1,386), and walks (3,403).

Barajas, a former Rangers catcher from 2004-06, returns after serving as assistant coach for the Angels' Double-A Rocket City affiliate in 2025 and field coordinator for the Marlins in 2023-24 under Schumaker. Jankowski, a Rangers cult hero from the 2023 World Series, steps in as first-base coach after an 11-year playing career. He replaced an injured Adolis García in the final two games of that series, collecting two RBIs in Game 4. Suggs comes from four seasons as bullpen coach with the Twins, where relievers ranked fourth in strikeouts (2,152) and fifth in fewest walks (775) in the American League.

The final staff member will be announced later. This setup continues the Rangers' streak of having at least two former players on the coaching staff for the 13th consecutive season beginning in 2014.
