Thales signs contract to supply VHF radios to Egypt via TBEI

Thales has signed its first contract with Egypt's Ministry of Defence through the TBEI joint venture to deliver VHF-HD tactical radios for the Egyptian Armed Forces.

The agreement was announced on 6 July 2026 and represents the first major programme for TBEI. The joint venture was established in January 2025 between Thales and Benha Electronics Industries, a firm owned by Egypt's Ministry of Military Production.

This contract forms part of a wider 2022 deal between Egypt's Ministry of Defence and Hanwha Defense to equip artillery platforms with VHF-HD tactical communication systems. The radios are described as combat-proven and chosen for their robustness and interoperability.

Christophe Salomon, Thales Executive Vice-President for Secure Communications and Information Systems, stated that the deal advances the long-standing partnership and supports local industry development. Thales has operated in Egypt for more than five decades and employs nearly 460 people there.
