For three seasons the show has followed Colter Shaw as he investigates the death of his father Ashton Shaw. Ashton, once a Berkeley professor, became involved with government contractors and the Chrono Stasis Institute before an incident at an Alaska research facility. He later moved his family off the grid near Sierra National Forest and trained his children in survival skills.
