A full trailer for the upcoming FX and Hulu series The Shards premiered on July 14, 2026. The show, created by Ryan Murphy and based on Bret Easton Ellis's 2023 novel, is scheduled to debut on August 5 with two episodes.
The trailer introduces a story set in 1980s Los Angeles at an elite prep school. It follows privileged high school seniors dealing with identity, sex, jealousy, obsession, and threats from a serial killer called The Trawler.
Igby Rigney stars as Bret, a senior aspiring to be a writer. Homer Gere plays the mysterious transfer student Robert Mallory. Kaia Gerber portrays Susan Reynolds, with Hayes Warner as Debbie Schaffer and Graham Campbell as Thom Wright.
Wes Bentley and Evan Rachel Wood appear as Debbie's parents Terry and Liz. Jordan Roth plays Steven Reinhardt. Executive producers include Ryan Murphy, Bret Easton Ellis, Nina Jacobson, and others.
The series returns Murphy to high school themes with a horror element. It airs at 9/8c on FX and streams on Hulu.
