Trains resume after contact wire failure in Knivsta

A live contact wire snapped and fell onto a train in Knivsta, halting train traffic between Arlanda and Uppsala on Sunday evening. Police and rescue services were called to the scene, and the train was evacuated. Traffic resumed by 20:30.

The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025. A live contact wire snapped and fell onto a train at Knivsta station, causing a halt in train traffic between Arlanda and Uppsala. The train was evacuated, and rescue services were alerted to the scene.

SJ press officer Leila Fagerholm described the situation earlier in the evening: “All trains coming from the south and passing Uppsala are affected and standing still.” According to Trafikverket, police requested a traffic stop shortly after 7 p.m. Trafikverket operations officer Therese Blades commented: “It's a contact wire that has broken and made a burn mark on the locomotive's front window. There is no fire.”

No injuries were reported, and traffic resumed by 8:30 p.m., according to Trafikverket. The event affected all trains passing Uppsala but was resolved quickly without major delays beyond the initial stop. Upsala Nya Tidning reported on the evacuation, while SJ advised passengers to wait.
