Transit Agent Caught Extorting Tourists in Cancún

A viral video shows a transit agent demanding 630 dollars from tourists in Cancún. The officer fled after being confronted and municipal authorities have dismissed two officers for extortion acts.

A video shared on social media captured a transit agent on Avenida José López Portillo demanding money from a couple of tourists. The man who recorded the incident confronted the officer saying: “Estás pidiendo 630 dólares. Ahí está la prueba ¡Ratota!”.

The tourists confirmed that the agent asked for the equivalent of 11 thousand pesos. The officer did not respond and fled the scene. At the time of the initial reports, Cancún police had not issued a statement.

The Secretaría Municipal de Seguridad Ciudadana y Tránsito de Benito Juárez announced that two agents were dismissed and placed under investigation. The Cancún Police expressed willingness to collaborate with the state prosecutor and reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on corruption.
