Unión Española confirms Emiliano Vecchio's return to Primera B

Chilean club Unión Española announced the return of Argentine midfielder Emiliano Vecchio for the 2026 Primera B season. This marks his third stint with the Santa Laura team, following previous spells in 2012 and 2024. The announcement came on Christmas via social media, highlighting the player's and club's excitement.

Unión Española, newly relegated to Primera B, has added a key reinforcement with the return of 37-year-old Argentine midfielder Emiliano Vecchio. The club confirmed it via an Instagram video, stating: “In this Christmas, wishes come true. Emiliano Vecchio returns to the Cathedral to wear the Red shirt again and become our star signing for the 2026 season”.

Vecchio, coming from Regatas San Nicolás in Argentina, shared his joy in the video: “Hello to all the Hispanic people. Well, you can see the happiness on my face, after an effort from both sides, the club and mine, we reached an agreement and I can say that I am once again a Unión Española player”. He added: “My third cycle, everyone knows what I feel for this club, the club I love and that gave me so much, I send a kiss to everyone, Merry Christmas and I hope next year you support us as always”.

The midfielder will join the squad under coach Gonzalo Villagra, aiming for quick promotion. In his two previous stints with Unión Española, he played 69 matches and scored 18 goals, including his 2012 arrival during the Clausura Tournament final. Trained at Rosario Central since 2005, Vecchio has an international career across clubs in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia, with titles at Colo Colo in 2014 and 2015.
