A 27-year-old man from Hardoi district was caught in Bareilly impersonating another candidate during the Home Guard recruitment exam's biometric verification on Sunday. Identified as Anurag, he had also taken the test for someone else the previous day. Police arrested him and registered a case under cheating and forgery laws.
During the first shift (10am to noon) of the Home Guard Enrolment Examination 2025 on Sunday at Sahu Gopinath Kanya Inter College in Bareilly, the exam centre in-charge noticed suspicious behaviour from a candidate, said Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya.
Biometric verification led to a thorough check, identifying the man as Anurag, 27, from Hardoi district in Uttar Pradesh. Interrogation revealed he was taking the test for Dharmendra Singh. The previous day, he had impersonated the same candidate at Darbari Lal Sharma Inter College on Pilibhit Road, Rithaura.
Police registered a case at Kotwali police station based on a complaint from the inspector-in-charge, under BNS Sections 319(2) for cheating by personation, 318(4) for cheating, 340(2) for using forged documents, 336(3) for forgery, and the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
The accused has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The exam is being conducted in two shifts on April 25, 26, and 27 by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board.
