On Donald Trump, Wadephul stated: 'A Donald Trump in the White House would be a disaster for Europe and the world.' He explained this by pointing to Trump's isolationist stance, which would strain transatlantic relations. Wadephul warned that a Trump presidency could weaken NATO and expose Europe to greater security risks. He stressed, however, that Europe must enhance its own defense capabilities regardless of US developments.
In the context of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, Wadephul called for unwavering support for Kyiv. 'We must give Ukraine everything it needs to defend itself,' he said. He sharply criticized the AfD for its proximity to Russian positions, calling it 'dangerous' for German foreign policy. Wadephul advocated increasing defense spending above two percent of GDP and stronger European integration on security issues.
