PDI frees kidnapped woman in Estación Central and arrests four suspects

The BIPE unit of Chile's PDI rescued a Peruvian clothing merchant kidnapped on Wednesday in Estación Central, Santiago, and found her in good condition in Cerro Navia. Prosecutors will formalize charges against four detainees: two Chileans and two Venezuelans. Meanwhile, police investigate the kidnapping of hardware businessman Jorge Vera, which took place on Tuesday in San Miguel.
A leaked French police report reveals that overseas criminal masterminds are behind many recent cryptocurrency-related kidnappings in France. Between July 2023 and the end of 2025, authorities recorded 40 such organized cases, with more than half targeting crypto holders or sector workers. Victims, mostly young men flaunting their wealth online, face rising threats coordinated through local recruiters.
