Lt. Gen. Michael Wright, commander of the Canadian Army, said in a Yonhap News Agency interview that the partnership between South Korea and Canada, forged during the Korean War, is growing stronger amid deepening military cooperation. He visited Gapyeong for the 75th anniversary of a key battle there. Troops from both nations began high-tech drills ahead of the event.
The South Korean military has recovered the remains of 25 soldiers believed killed during the 1950-53 Korean War from a former battlefield in the Demilitarized Zone. This is the first such excavation in three years at White Horse Ridge in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, as part of measures to reduce military tensions between the two Koreas. The 40-day search, involving South Korean and U.S.-led U.N. Command troops, also yielded 1,962 pieces of belongings.
