A24's The Invite expanded widely in its third week and landed at No. 6 on the domestic box office chart. The comedy grossed more than $5.7 million from 1,610 locations.
The film, directed by and starring Olivia Wilde, opened on seven screens June 26 before expanding. It has now reached a $7.38 million cumulative total. Wilde stars alongside Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton.
The Invite holds a 96 percent critics score and 88 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. It earned strong exits and a 69 percent definite recommend rating.
Other indie titles this weekend included Angel Studios' Young Washington at No. 5 and Focus Features' Obsession at No. 7. A24's Backrooms ranked No. 10.
