Aaron Ramsey appointed head coach of Oxford United

Former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has been named the new head coach of League One side Oxford United. The 35-year-old will lead the club's bid to return to the Championship next season. Oxford turned to Ramsey three days after sacking Matt Bloomfield following relegation.

Ramsey enjoyed a distinguished playing career with over 400 appearances for Arsenal and Juventus. He also earned 86 caps for Wales. Prior to this role, he worked as a coach in the Welsh setup and took caretaker charge of Cardiff for three games during the 2024/25 season.

Ramsey said the appointment is an honour. He added that he sensed the club's ambition during discussions and wants to bring high standards and a clear identity to the team.

Oxford chairman Dusan Bogdanovic said Ramsey's ambitions match those of the club. He noted the thorough process and expressed confidence that Ramsey is the right leader to take Oxford forward.
