Ally Evenson releases introspective single Turning Turning

Rising alternative-pop singer-songwriter Ally Evenson has released her new single "Turning Turning," an introspective track that previews her upcoming sophomore album SPEED KILLS. The song, produced with collaborators nydge and Kim Vi, explores themes of self-reflection and letting go. It arrives via Assemble Sound/Atlantic Records, capping off a busy 2025 for the artist.

Ally Evenson's latest release, "Turning Turning," marks a reflective close to 2025. The single, out now via Assemble Sound/Atlantic Records, sets the stage for her anticipated sophomore album, SPEED KILLS, scheduled for February 20, 2026. Over 14 tracks, the album delves into the aftermath of a breakup, capturing anxiety, sadness, newfound confidence, and self-actualization. Evenson co-produced the project with longtime collaborator nydge, emphasizing personal storytelling.

In "Turning Turning," synths bubble and oscillate under Evenson's infectious vocals, paired with acoustic guitar elements. The lyrics ponder regret and resilience: "Do you ever wish you could undo? Make it feel brand new?" The chorus builds hypnotically: "Turning turning I'll keep the fire burning."

Evenson describes the track as "a little whimsical tune about self-reflection and letting things happen." She adds, "Trying to control your surroundings is so exhausting and almost impossible."

This follows recent singles like "AFO," hailed by RANGE Magazine as a "visceral, queer power trip," with a music video premiering exclusively there. Earlier, "Strawberry" gained traction, praised by The Luna Collective as an "auditory whirlwind" and featured on Joe Jonas's November 14 New Music Friday playlist. The album's direction was first teased with "Phetamines," which Off The Record called brilliant for its "unexpected sonic twists and turns."

Evenson sums up the album: "All of these songs are about me and my life. You're getting who I am on SPEED KILLS. This is a study of myself."

Named one of Pigeons & Planes' "25 Artists to Watch in 2025," Evenson built on her 2024 debut BLUE SUPER LOVE, recognized by Pitchfork. She has toured supporting Wallice, The Japanese House, and Band of Horses, and joined Chloe Moriondo as a guitarist across the US and Europe.
