Anduril acquires ExoAnalytic to bolster space operations

Anduril Industries has announced the acquisition of ExoAnalytic Solutions, a space intelligence firm with a global network of over 400 telescopes. The deal will more than double Anduril's space-focused staff and enhance its capabilities in satellite tracking and missile defense. The acquisition aims to support national security missions in space domain awareness.

Anduril Industries, known for developing autonomous weapons such as cruise missiles and underwater drones, revealed on March 11, 2026, that it is purchasing ExoAnalytic Solutions. The firm has operated for nearly two decades, providing modeling, simulation, and software for classified national security space programs, including missile warning and defense.

ExoAnalytic maintains the world's largest commercial telescope network, with more than 400 systems deployed globally. This network has gathered billions of observations, offering high-fidelity data on satellite movements, maneuvers, and anomalies in deep space, particularly in geostationary orbit used for communications and spying.

The acquisition will integrate ExoAnalytic's 130 employees into Anduril's space unit, which currently has 120 staff, according to Gokul Subramanian, Anduril's vice president of engineering. "For nearly twenty years, ExoAnalytic has delivered important advantages for the nation’s most critical missions," Anduril stated in a press release.

Founded in 2017 by Palmer Luckey and former Palantir employees, Anduril is involved in the US Air Force's Collaborative Combat Aircraft program for robotic wingmen. The deal will provide Anduril with ExoAnalytic's telescope network, missile defense software, and tracking algorithms, aiding space domain awareness, battle management, and fire control.

Subramanian emphasized the strategic focus: "We are focused on protecting space, assuring access to space, ensuring custody of space." Anduril plans to incorporate ExoAnalytic's expertise into projects like the Electronimo mission, set for launch this year, which features onboard processing for space surveillance sensors in low-Earth orbit. Additional partnerships include demonstrations with Impulse Space and Argo Space for satellite operations.

While continuing to serve commercial clients, Anduril intends to develop more military-oriented products, including applications for the Pentagon's Golden Dome missile defense program. ExoAnalytic's skills in digital signal processing and target discrimination will enhance these efforts.

After Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said in late February that the company would not allow its Claude model to be used for mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons, senior Pentagon officials said they have no intention of using AI for domestic surveillance and insist that private firms cannot set binding limits on how the U.S. military employs AI tools.

Elon Musk has officialized the merger of xAI with SpaceX, creating an entity valued at US$1.25 trillion aimed at moving data centers to space to address AI's energy crisis. This vertical integration combines space transport, connectivity, and AI processing. The plan leverages infinite solar energy in orbit to cut operational costs.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has threatened Anthropic with severe penalties unless the company grants the military unrestricted access to its Claude AI model. The ultimatum came during a meeting with CEO Dario Amodei in Washington on Tuesday, coinciding with Anthropic's announcement to relax its Responsible Scaling Policy. The changes shift from strict safety tripwires to more flexible risk assessments amid competitive pressures.

The Pentagon is considering ending its relationship with AI firm Anthropic due to disagreements over safeguards. Anthropic, the maker of the Claude AI model, has raised concerns about hard limits on fully autonomous weapons and mass domestic surveillance. This stems from the Pentagon's desire to apply AI models in warfighting scenarios, which Anthropic has declined.
