A fire broke out in an apartment in Hjärup on Monday evening and quickly spread to the attic of the two-story building. Five apartments were evacuated, with residents taken to a nearby sports hall. No injuries were reported.
Rescue services, police, and ambulances were alerted to Hjärup in Staffanstorp municipality just after 20:30. The fire started in a second-floor apartment in a multi-family house and spread to the attic before reaching two adjacent apartments.
"The entire row of houses is burning. We are on site with a large number of units and are now working to contain the fire, both sideways and downwards," said Patric Nilsson, duty officer at the rescue service.
Residents from five apartments were evacuated to a sports hall in a nearby school. The municipality opened the hall to provide them a gathering place.
"None of them will be able to return during the night," said Patric Nilsson. By 23:00, the fire was under control with no further risk of spread. The rescue service planned to remain on site all night but with a reduced force.
No reports of injuries were available in the latest updates.
