A member of the All Progressives Congress was shot in the leg by suspected political thugs in Osogbo on Saturday. Two other residents were kidnapped in Ilesa by suspected APC loyalists but have since been rescued.
Taofeek Mustapha, an APC member, was attacked in the Oluode-Aranyin area while wearing an AMBO-crested cap associated with the party’s candidate. Witnesses said the attackers arrived in an unmarked vehicle, fired shots into the air, and pursued Mustapha before shooting him in the leg. He escaped after crying for help.
Osun State Police Command spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed the shooting and said investigations have begun. The same command reported that two residents abducted in Ilesa by suspected APC-linked thugs have been freed.
The incidents occurred as political tension rises ahead of the August 15 governorship election. Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu has ordered a show of strength and raids on criminal hideouts, directing the state Commissioner of Police to prevent further violence.
