Ride-hailing platform Bolt has issued a statement clarifying its pricing adjustments for electric vehicle boda boda operators after some riders held peaceful protests over earnings and costs.
On Monday, tens of riders protested in the streets, citing reduced trip fares, commission charges and higher operational costs. Bolt responded that the changes corrected a prior imbalance where EV rides were priced higher than petrol-powered ones despite lower running costs for electric motorcycles.
The company said the adjustment aligned EV pricing slightly below internal combustion engine rides as a fairness measure. It stressed that rider earnings were not reduced by the move.
Bolt also confirmed its commission rates remain unchanged and rejected claims of increases. The firm said it remains open to dialogue with riders and stakeholders.
This follows a six per cent rise in cab fares introduced after consultations to offset higher fuel prices set by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
