Dani Carvajal said goodbye to Real Madrid at the Bernabéu after 24 years at the club. The captain, the last survivor of the 2014 tenth European Cup team, cried during his emotional farewell following the win against Athletic.
Carvajal stated: “Con mi salida ponemos fin a una era maravillosa”. He recalled his tenth European Cup teammates such as Cristiano, Casillas, Ramos, Ancelotti and Zidane. He asked to be remembered “with pride and the certainty that I gave everything for this shirt”.
David Alaba also said a brief farewell: “He disfrutado mucho con vosotros. Gracias por vuestro cariño. Os llevaré siempre en el corazón”. The night included other departures such as those of Álvaro Arbeloa and possibly Dani Ceballos.
Madrid defeated Athletic on the final matchday. Thiago assisted Bellingham and Brahim. The match served as the setting for the farewells amid turbulent days for the club.
