Colombian banks profits rise 44 percent to 6.9 trillion pesos by May

The Superintendencia Financiera reported that Colombian banks accumulated 6.9 trillion pesos in profits by the end of May, a 44 percent increase from the same period in 2025. Bancolombia led with 3.1 trillion pesos in earnings.

Bancolombia, Davivienda and Banco de Bogotá led the results among the 30 institutions evaluated. Davivienda recorded 941.445 billion pesos, Banco de Bogotá obtained 599.105 billion pesos and Banco GNB Sudameris reached 418.727 billion pesos. Only three entities reported losses.

Andrés Langebaek, former ANIF vice president, noted that return on equity remains at 13.8 percent. He also highlighted that loan portfolio quality indicators improve in consumer, housing and commercial credit.

The analyst added that portfolio growth shows moderation and is projected near 8 percent for the rest of the year. David Cubides, chief economist at Banco de Occidente, attributed the results to dynamic consumption and increased confidence.
