Applications to Dalarna University have risen by more than 13 percent, intensifying competition for the same number of spots. A record 424,113 Swedes have applied for higher education this autumn, according to the Swedish Council for Higher Education. Vice rector Jonas Tosteby states the university cannot admit more students.
More Swedes than ever are applying for higher education this autumn term. The Swedish Council for Higher Education reports a record 424,113 applications nationwide. Thirty-two institutions, including Dalarna University, have seen increases, with the university noting a more than 13 percent rise above the national average.
The nursing program leads popularity at Dalarna University, with a 51 percent surge in applicants. Other top programs include business management (up 12 percent), social work (up 21 percent), sport management (up 2 percent), and industrial economics (up 27 percent). The number of available places has not increased.
"We cannot admit more students even if we wanted to," says Jonas Tosteby, vice rector for education at Dalarna University. He notes that capacity is at its limit. The university operates in Falun and Borlänge.
