Dallas Stars finish strong November with 6-1 victory over Senators

The Dallas Stars defeated the Ottawa Senators 6-1 on Sunday, capping a historic November with an 11-2-2 record. This win improved their overall mark to 17-5-4, placing them second in the NHL standings. The performance highlighted their depth and resilience amid multiple injuries.

The Dallas Stars delivered a dominant 6-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators at American Airlines Center, marking their second straight win in the new 'The '99' jerseys. This game showcased what assistant coach Glen Gulutzan called 'our most complete game for me of the year,' with strong goaltending, power play efficiency, penalty kill solidity, and defensive 5-on-5 play.

Dallas wrapped up November with an 11-2-2 record, tying for the third-best mark in the NHL and the second-most wins in a single month in franchise history. They ranked second league-wide with 4.13 goals per game, seventh with 2.47 goals against, and first with a 35.3 percent power play success rate. Over their last 12 games, the Stars went 10-1-1, outscoring opponents 51-24.

The team demonstrated remarkable comeback ability, tying for third in the NHL with eight comeback wins and leading the league with five multi-goal comebacks. They are 5-0-2 in their last seven games after trailing 2-0. Dallas also holds the NHL-high with 11 one-goal wins and a 11-1-4 record in such games.

Despite injuries sidelining key players like Matt Duchene (missed all but four games), Jamie Benn (first 19 games), Roope Hintz (five games), Nils Lundkvist (22 games), and Thomas Harley (week-to-week), depth has shone through. Alexander Petrovic posted a plus-6 rating, Kyle Capobianco tallied three assists in his last five games, and Vladislav Kolyachonok scored the game-winner in Seattle. The 'QueBack line' of Justin Hryckowian, Oskar Bäck, and Mavrik Bourque has contributed regularly.

Seventeen different Stars scored in November, with 22 season goal scorers tying for the NHL lead. Wyatt Johnston noted, 'Confidence is a hell of a drug, and it’s definitely been fueling us for a bit now.' Gulutzan added, 'I didn’t expect the record to be like this, but we are figuring it out.'

This success evokes nostalgia, tying into the franchise's strong history since 1993, the second-best record in the NHL.
