Kenya's Transport Ministry has signed a contract with Dar Al-Handasah Consultants to oversee engineering supervision for the Ksh 154 billion Jomo Kenyatta International Airport modernisation project. The agreement was signed on July 15.
Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir said the firm will handle design review, project management and contract administration. He added that the consultant will ensure the works meet approved engineering specifications, safety standards, quality requirements, timelines and budget.
The construction contract worth Ksh 154 billion was awarded to China Road and Bridge Corporation following a competitive process that began after the JKIA Master Plan was completed in February 2026. More than 40 firms attended a pre-bid conference in April.
The project includes a new passenger terminal and upgrades to airside and landside operations. It is expected to raise the airport's annual capacity to about 22 million passengers upon completion within three years.
