President-elect Abelardo De La Espriella ordered the suspension of the transition process with Gustavo Petro's government. Petro and former candidate Iván Cepeda do not recognize the results of the June 21 elections.
De La Espriella denounced that Petro and Cepeda are preparing a coup d'état and asked the Armed Forces to defend the Constitution. The president-elect stated that transition cannot proceed with a government that disregards the popular will.
The Comptroller General called for recognition of the elected government's legitimacy and announced a technical table with vice president-elect José Manuel Restrepo on July 8 to protect public resources. Asobancaria backed De La Espriella and demanded respect for results verified by the electoral authority.
Finance Minister Germán Ávila confirmed that Petro's government also suspended participation in the transition due to injurious statements from incoming commission members. Ávila indicated that management reports will be delivered to the Comptroller and the Procurator.
