Dead by Daylight creative director teases more chapter remakes

Dead by Daylight's creative director Dave Richard has expressed interest in remaking more original chapters following the upcoming All-Kill Comeback update. This 39th chapter revives the 19th from 2021 with reworked content and new additions tied to Korean themes. Richard highlighted fan requests and untapped stories as key inspirations.

Dead by Daylight's All-Kill Comeback, set for release later this month, marks the game's first full revisit and expansion of an original chapter. Originally launched in 2021 as the 19th chapter, All-Kill returns with a reworked Killer, the Trickster, designed to be more engaging for players on both sides. The update also introduces a new urban map and a new Survivor, Kwon Tae-young, voiced by Kevin Woo, known from KPop Demon Hunters.

In a written interview with PCGamesN, creative director Dave Richard explained the motivations behind the project. "We were inspired to return to Korea because of the fans, really," Richard said. He noted the team's long-standing intent to rework the Trickster and address fan requests for a map, which was not feasible earlier due to resource constraints. "And it's such a rich world, we wanted to go back to it!"

Richard also addressed the broader potential for similar updates. When asked about adding maps to other mapless chapters, he replied, "Yes there are, and while it would be incredible to be able to have all Chapters associated with maps, I sadly can't promise this."

The timing aligns with growing global interest in Korean entertainment, boosted by last year's KPop Demon Hunters film. However, Richard clarified that development began before the movie's release. "We started working on this before the movie came out - so it's truly a happy coincidence," he said. The team had previously collaborated with Woo as a consultant for the original All-Kill.

One point of fan disappointment is the lack of voice work for the original Survivor, Lee Yun-jin, who will remain silent in the update. "In an ideal world I would love for every character to have voice lines but again I can't make any promises," Richard acknowledged.

Looking ahead, Richard expressed enthusiasm for future remakes. "I personally would love to do it again with more original Chapters as I feel there's so many stories left to be told," he teased, though he stopped short of committing to the idea. The interview was conducted by Danielle Rose and reported by Jamie Hore.
