Democratic Alliance opposes draft Employment Equity Code

The Democratic Alliance says it will oppose the draft Employment Equity Code gazetted by Employment and Labour Minister Nomakhosazana Meth.

The Democratic Alliance announced its opposition to the draft code, describing it as job-killing. The code, gazetted last week, implements prescribed sectoral targets under section 15A of the Employment Equity Act.

The party stated that it is already challenging the minister's power to set such targets. It argued that hiring should focus on skills, merit and business needs rather than government prescriptions.

The announcement came in a statement issued on 26 July 2026.
