High tension erupted in Madrid on Tuesday as dozens of immigrants stormed the Gambian embassy after an unsuccessful overnight queue for appointments. The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on Hernández Iglesias street in the Ciudad Lineal district. Police intervened to restore order.
Dozens of people had queued overnight outside the Gambian embassy on Hernández Iglesias street in the Ciudad Lineal district to obtain numbers needed to process vulnerability certificates. Early in the morning, they were told that appointments were exhausted, sparking the unrest.
Several individuals jumped the fence and tried to force their way inside, causing scenes of nervousness and pushing at the entrances. Agents from the National Police's Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR), along with Madrid's Municipal Police, evicted those who had entered and restored order.
Police sources stated that no arrests were made despite the seriousness of the incident, as the swift response prevented major escalations. Officers are now maintaining surveillance in the area due to the high demand for these certificates.
