President Bola Tinubu has been commended for supporting a partnership between the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to produce modern security equipment locally. The collaboration aims to boost Nigeria's self-reliance in national security. A new manufacturing facility in Abuja is now operational.

On Thursday, October 23, 2025, in Abuja, NASENI's Chief Executive Officer, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, praised President Bola Tinubu for backing the joint initiative with the DSS. This partnership has led to the establishment of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility fully equipped to produce high-grade security technology, enhancing intelligence gathering and operational efficiency nationwide.

Halilu highlighted the facility's role, stating, “A state-of-the-art manufacturing facility jointly constructed with the DSS in Abuja is fully equipped with the latest security systems and technology that will transform the conduct of security operations nationwide.” He noted that DSS Director-General Oluwatosin Ajayi has aligned with Tinubu's vision of promoting self-reliance in Nigeria's security architecture and reducing dependence on imported equipment.

The President believes Nigeria has the capacity to manufacture its own security equipment, minimizing reliance on foreign imports. This strategic effort leverages NASENI's scientific and engineering expertise to tailor research and innovation to security needs. Both agencies have invested in training technical experts to support the production line, though specifics of the equipment remain classified for operational reasons.

Halilu emphasized that the collaboration could position Nigeria as a regional leader in security technology manufacturing, strengthening national stability and the West African security landscape. The initiative reflects Tinubu's priorities for self-reliance and technological advancement in addressing Nigeria's security challenges, with expectations of improved efficiency among security agencies.
