Armand Duplantis cleared 6.13 meters and won the Paris Diamond League gala despite three failed attempts at the world record height of 6.32 meters.
The Swedish-American pole vaulter competed two weeks after his three-day wedding on the French Riviera. He set a new competition record at 6.13 meters and won the gala.
Duplantis had lost his previous event at Stockholm Stadium on June 7, the first time in nearly three years. He told SVT that he wanted to make a small statement.
In Paris the temperature exceeded 32 degrees. Duplantis said he felt motivated and had something to prove after the Stockholm loss.
