Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Faye Webster has signed with the indie label Secretly Canadian. She accompanies the announcement with a new track, "Kingston," and its self-directed video. The 21-year-old artist continues to blend country-pop elements in her evolving sound.
Faye Webster, an Atlanta-based singer-songwriter, has joined the roster of Secretly Canadian, a prominent indie label. This move follows the release of her sophomore, self-titled album last year, which earned her recognition as a Paste Best of What’s Next pick. At 21, Webster demonstrates versatility not only in music but also in visual arts, having self-directed the video for her latest single, "Kingston."
The song "Kingston" showcases Webster's signature lush, dreamy country-pop style, but with a fresh twist. It features silky, weightless slide guitar and gentle beats, complemented by groovy electric guitar, soulful saxophone, and a subtle organ. The track takes a psychedelic turn as Webster sings, “Baby tell me where you want to go / Baby tell me what you want to know.” This contrasts with bouncier tracks like “She Won’t Go Away” from her previous album.
Visually, the video offers a surreal treat: Webster appears in blood-red luxe silk pajamas during a montage, then lounges amid a group of flamingos. She later directs a trio of ice skaters dressed in silver sequined costumes, creating a silky and whimsical atmosphere.
Beyond music, Webster has deep roots in Atlanta's creative scene. Since high school, she has immersed herself in the hip-hop community, photographing artists such as Killer Mike, Lil Yachty, D.R.A.M., and Migos’ Offset. She was a member of the rap collective PSA and is affiliated with the startup Awful Records.
Webster supports the release with upcoming tour dates, including shows in the U.K. in January and U.S. performances in February through May, opening for acts like Deerhunter and Lord Huron.
