Mike Florio believes the Pittsburgh Steelers should pursue Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield if he reaches free agency next offseason.
Florio made the comments Monday on his Pro Football Talk podcast. He said Mayfield would be a good fit in Pittsburgh and urged the team to act aggressively if other options fall short. The Steelers plan to start Aaron Rodgers in 2026, with the veteran set to retire after the season. Florio noted that Mayfield, at age 31, remains younger than recent veteran signings and could provide several productive years. Mayfield has one year left on his current contract and recently indicated he is not close to an extension with the Buccaneers. He set a deadline of the start of training camp for any new deal. Mayfield threw for 3,693 yards with 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season. Florio added that any potential contract could reach at least $40 million annually, which might challenge Pittsburgh's budget.
