Former Gor Mahia midfielder Allan Thigo dies after cancer battle

The Kenyan football community is mourning the death of Allan Thigo, a former midfielder for Gor Mahia and the national team Harambee Stars. He succumbed to cancer in Bungoma County.

Gor Mahia announced the passing of Allan Thigo on Sunday. The club described him as a dedicated player and coach whose contributions to the team and Kenyan football will be remembered.

Thigo spent twelve years with Gor Mahia from 1970 to 1981. He scored 88 goals and ranks as the club's second-highest scorer. He helped the team win the 1976 league title in an unbeaten season and featured in the 1979 Africa Cup Winners' Cup.

Known for his stamina, he earned the nickname 90-minute man. After retirement he chaired the Kenya Soccer Players Association to support current and former players.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo and club patron Owalo paid public tributes. Owalo stated that Thigo's footprint in Kenyan soccer will be remembered for generations.
