Gambella gold production up 35 percent

Ethiopia's Gambella Region produced more than 4,488 kilograms of refined gold over the past seven months, marking a 35 percent rise from the same period last year. The output was submitted to the National Bank of Ethiopia.

This represents a 35 percent increase compared to the same period last year and exceeds the planned output by 988 kilograms. The gold was submitted to the National Bank of Ethiopia. Gambella Regional Mineral Resources Development Deputy Director General Elias Gedamu stated that the amount delivered to the National Bank is 1,175 kilograms higher than the previous year's equivalent period, according to a state media ENA report. He attributed the achievement to the government's emphasis on the sector, along with regulatory implementation, monitoring, and support activities. The production occurred in the Dima, Abobo, Gambella, and Mengesh woredas using traditional methods, special small-scale operations, and large-scale gold companies. Gedamu confirmed ongoing efforts to bolster these initiatives, aiming to submit over the planned 6,000 kilograms to the National Bank during the current budget year.
