Garbage truck driver charged after fatal alley crash

A St. Petersburg garbage truck driver is accused of running over a sleeping woman in an alley and leaving the scene. Nathan Brown, 51, faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash while causing death.

The incident occurred on Saturday on 3rd Street North between Central Avenue and 1st Avenue North. Brown was reversing his truck to collect trash when a bystander warned him about people sleeping in the area, according to a probable cause affidavit. He allegedly ignored the warning and struck the 49-year-old woman, killing her. Brown then continued his route without stopping or calling for help.
