The Council of Ministers today approves a royal decree law with an extraordinary benefit for workers affected by wildfires and a bill to protect those who report corruption in companies.
The government gives the green light to two measures proposed by Second Deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Díaz. One is the royal decree law activating a special benefit to cover salaries and social contributions of workers unable to reach their workplaces due to circumstances arising from the wildfires. The other is a bill declaring null the dismissal of corruption whistleblowers.
The wildfire aid was negotiated with social partners and affected autonomous communities. The measure will be temporary, after the Economy Ministry prevailed over the initial idea of a structural benefit.
The reform to protect workers who report corruption has been in preparation since October 2025. It will amend the Workers' Statute to include nullity of dismissal and will extend protection to close family members.
At the same time, the European Commission grants margin until autumn to transpose the Pay Transparency Directive, avoiding an immediate fine for Spain.
