The Ministry of Education confirmed the suspension of classes for Wednesday, July 15, in the Ñuble and Biobío regions due to the frontal system affecting the central-southern area of the country.
The measure adds to the one already announced for Friday, July 17, in the regions of Coquimbo, Valparaíso, Metropolitana, O’Higgins and Maule. The MINEDUC specified that the suspension applies to public and private establishments of preschool, primary and secondary education.
Authorities declared a preventive emergency in 10 regions between Atacama and Los Ríos from July 13 to 21. The national director of SENAPRED, Alicia Cebrián, emphasized that “the frontal system brings very significant amounts of precipitation”.
In addition, the Los Libertadores pass remains closed since Tuesday due to snowfall and CONAF decreed the temporary closure of 22 national parks and reserves between Atacama and Biobío. The Navy issued a warning for abnormal swells from Huasco to the Golfo de Penas between Thursday, July 16, and Saturday, July 18.
