Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that Indonesia is ready to announce food self-sufficiency for strategic commodities like rice on December 31, 2025, at 12:00. National rice stocks have hit a record 3.8 million tons, all from local farmers' production. The government has prepared reserves three times the national requirement while distributing aid to disaster-affected areas.
On Thursday (December 4, 2025), at the Ministry of Agriculture headquarters in Jakarta, Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman revealed the government's readiness to declare food self-sufficiency. The announcement is scheduled for exactly December 31, 2025, at 12:00, marking a year-end achievement reliant on domestic production.
"Insya Allah kita berdoa kita bisa umumkan swasembada nanti. Di tanggal 31 Desember jam 12.00. Kita umumkan bahwa Indonesia swasembada. Yang menarik, beras yang ada di gudang itu adalah hasil produksi petani Indonesia," Amran said.
Current national rice stocks stand at a peak of 3.8 million tons, with reserves prepared three times the national requirement. This measure aims to prevent any food shortages, particularly in disaster-affected regions. Additionally, the Ministry of Agriculture has allocated Rp 75 billion through the Kementan Peduli program.
Today, the government released 207 trucks of logistics aid containing rice, cooking oil, sugar, milk, mineral water, and other essentials to West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and Aceh. Coordination with local governments is at maximum efficiency, with dedicated teams on 24-hour standby for swift and targeted distribution.
"Kementerian Pertanian, beras kami siapkan tiga kali lipat dari kebutuhan. Kemudian ada bantuan Kementan Peduli, itu nilainya Rp 75 miliar," Amran stated. These efforts are expected to aid disaster recovery while reinforcing national food security through local farmers' hard work.
