Two teams of seventh-grade students from SMP Islam Amalina in Tangerang Selatan won the Best Innovative Project title at the ESD Symposium held 22-24 June 2026 in Kuala Lumpur.
The students outperformed senior high school participants from multiple countries. One team developed Piezoelectric Shoes that convert kinetic energy from footsteps into clean electricity. The second team created EcoSoap, which recycles used cooking oil into soap to cut environmental pollution.
School principal Fendra Kusnuryadi expressed gratitude for the award. He described the achievement as proof of the students' hard work, creativity and innovative spirit. SMP Islam Amalina belongs to the UNESCO Associated Schools Network and holds the Sekolah Adiwiyata title.
The symposium was organised by the Green Growth Asia Foundation and featured eco-school participants from Malaysia along with international entrants.
