Indonesia's men's doubles duo Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri delivered an impressive run at the BWF World Tour Super 750 French Open 2025 but settled for runners-up after a final defeat. On Sunday night WIB, at Glaz Arena in Rennes, France, they faced top seeds Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae, the world number one pair and 2025 world champions known for their fast and consistent play.

Fajar/Fikri started strong in the first game, pulling ahead to win 21-10. But in the second, they lost momentum, allowing Kim/Seo to level at 21-13. The decider ended 21-12 in favor of the Koreans, marking the second loss in three meetings this season. Previously, Fajar/Fikri had beaten them at the China Open 2025 21-19, 21-14, but lost at the China Masters (13-21, 17-21) and Korea Open (16-21, 21-23).

Prior to the final, Fajar/Fikri defeated second seeds Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia in the semifinals 21-14, 21-19. Fajar said, “We are very happy to reach the final again, but we want to win. Tomorrow against Kim/Seo, we must be ready to be tired physically, mentally, and focused. Tomorrow we must go all out.” Fikri added, “We know they are an extraordinary pair with extraordinary results this year. Very strong, very consistent, but we are not intimidated. We will fight as much as possible and hopefully perform our best.”

Their form shows positive momentum, with a China Open 2025 title and runners-up finishes at the Korea Open and Denmark Open 2025, where they lost to Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi 18-21, 21-15, 19-21. This loss leaves Indonesia without a title from the European tour, but Fajar/Fikri will continue to the Super 500 Hylo Open 2025 next week. Fajar noted, “We try to play enjoyably and enjoy every match. Playing without pressure allows us to bring out all our abilities.”
