Intel to launch Panther Lake chips at CES 2026

Intel is set to reveal details on its next-generation processors during its CES 2026 event in Las Vegas. The company will highlight the Core Ultra Series 3 CPUs, known as Panther Lake, amid ongoing competition in the chip industry. The launch comes as Intel addresses challenges in profitability and market position.

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026 begins in Las Vegas on January 4 and runs through January 9. Intel's launch event is scheduled for Monday, January 5, at 6 p.m. ET, led by Jim Johnson, senior vice president of Intel's Client Computing Group. A livestream will be available on the Intel Newsroom YouTube channel.

At the event, Intel plans to showcase the next generation of Intel-powered PCs, edge solutions, and AI experiences enabled by the new Intel Core Ultra Series 3 Processors, also called Panther Lake. These chips are produced using an 18A process, equivalent to 18 angstroms or just under 2 nanometers, and are targeted at high-end laptops and gaming devices.

This announcement occurs against a backdrop of heightened stakes for Intel. Over the past 12 months, NVIDIA and the US government have acquired ownership stakes in the company, which helped nearly double its stock price by the end of the year. However, the stock remains down more than 20 percent since 2021, with competitors including TSMC, Qualcomm, AMD, and NVIDIA leading in chip fabrication and AI hardware.

Intel has faced profitability concerns with these next-generation chips. Reports from last summer indicated yields below 50 percent. In response, Intel stated it felt "very good" about its trajectory on Panther Lake, though it missed the late 2025 release date originally planned.

Attendees may hear updates on the NVIDIA partnership, but no details are expected regarding rumors of Intel fabricating chips for a potential new entry-level MacBook Air from Apple.
