For the third consecutive year, Jason Golubski skipped his team to victory at the Utica Curling Club’s Cobb Mixed Bonspiel in Whitesboro. The team, known as Utica 4 during the event, defeated Don Knapp's rink 9-5 in the A Event final. Golubski's squad pulled ahead in the second half, securing the win when Knapp conceded late in the eighth end.
The Cobb Mixed Bonspiel, a weekend tournament at the Utica Curling Club in Whitesboro, drew 20 teams, including seven from Utica. Team Golubski, consisting of skip Jason Golubski, third Melissa Foote, Erich Krumme, and Audrey Foote, emerged as the A Event winner after a competitive final against Utica 5, skipped by Don Knapp with Marena Taverne, Cameron Hance, and Carrie Casab.
The match remained close, with Golubski noting in a news release that it was tighter than the 9-5 score suggested, particularly in two ends that required measurements. "Knapp was set up to score big a few times but our third, Melissa Foote, made some clutch draws to turn things in our favor," Golubski said. He added, "The team has been playing together since 2019 and we know each others tendencies and motivations pretty well. Our team has a great deal of fun on and off the ice. We really look forward to big bonspiels like the Cobb and competing against good teams. Playing well at this event means a lot to us."
The winning team received the Presidents Bowl, while the runners-up were awarded the Curlers Cooler. Other Utica teams performed strongly: Utica 1, skipped by Mike Kessler with Anne Stuhlman, Mike DeGironimo, and Lis DeGironimo, finished as runner-up in the C Event to Ardsley. Utica 3, skipped by Conrad Law with Knoyca Law, Tim Crofton, and Natalie Shelton, was runner-up in the F Event to Long Island.
Full results included Burlington winning the B Event with the Silver Tassie, Ardsley taking the C Event with the Ice Box, Albany claiming the D Event with the Friendship Trophy, Schenectady 2 winning the E Event, and Long Island the F Event. The event highlighted local curling talent in a mixed format, fostering competition among rinks from various regions.
