Jesús Martínez obtains provisional suspension after arrest warrant

Jesús Martínez, president of Grupo Pachuca, secured a provisional suspension against an arrest warrant issued against him. This allows him to continue his legal process in freedom as the case proceeds. The measure stems from a dispute over broadcasting rights with FOX Sports México.

On October 28, a judge issued an arrest warrant against Jesús Martínez for alleged aggravated disobedience by private individuals. The charge stemmed from his failure to attend two scheduled hearings without formal justification.

On October 31, a judge from the Seventh District Court in Criminal Matters in Mexico City granted the provisional suspension requested through an amparo. The ruling states: “The provisional suspension of the challenged acts is granted.” However, no definitive amparo has been issued, and the process remains ongoing.

The legal conflict involves a dispute between Grupo Pachuca and FOX Sports México, part of Grupo Lauman, which previously held broadcasting rights for Pachuca and León matches. Martínez and his board transferred those rights to FOX Corp due to outstanding payments from Lauman. The company invoked a first-option clause in the contract.

As part of the litigation, the club was ordered to refrain from conducting sports broadcasts until the case is resolved. Grupo Pachuca has stated that prior judicial resolutions validate the termination of the contract with Lauman and the new agreement with another company.
