Juan del Val makes brief appearance on El hormiguero after Planeta win

Juan del Val, a regular collaborator on El hormiguero and recent winner of the 2025 Premio Planeta, had a limited appearance on the October 16 show. Despite anticipation for his literary achievement, his segment lasted under thirteen minutes. The bulk of the program focused on musician Leiva and trivial topics.

The Antena 3 show El hormiguero devoted its first hour to musician Leiva and a documentary directed by 'some guys from the neighborhood.' After about forty minutes, collaborator Marron presented an experiment that Leiva watched patiently. The tertulianos then danced and sat at the round table, where Juan del Val was announced as 'the winner of the Premio Planeta.'

At the table were Pablo Motos, Cristina Pardo, Tamara Falcó, Nuria Roca, and an excited Juan del Val, who held the award in his hand. Tamara Falcó briefly held it and remarked: “This is as close as I'm going to get to a Premio Planeta.” Del Val shared his joy and nervousness, though the news had leaked from eight p.m. and was known on forums like Forocoches. Footage from the October 15 award ceremony showed frozen smiles in the audience, timid applause, and skeptical expressions.

Del Val reiterated his speech on popularity, quality, and elitism in literature. However, Nuria Roca spoke more than he did, stating: “Juan has made me a better person.” The segment, timed at under thirteen minutes, shifted to banal topics like Kim Kardashian's synthetic pubic hair thong, Roca's beach bag, and Koldo news. The idea arose that Del Val take some days off, which Motos took as a joke. He affirmed he would continue as scriptwriter and tertuliano.

The brief attention to a collaborator who won Spain's most important literary prize has drawn criticism for its scant relevance on the show.
