Junior H faces investigation for glorifying crime in Jalisco

Singer Junior H appeared before the Public Ministry in Jalisco after performing narcocorridos at a concert during the 2025 October Fiestas. Authorities are investigating him for glorifying crime, which could lead to up to six months in prison and a 33,000-peso fine. He has also been banned from performances in the state.

Antonio Herrera Pérez, known artistically as Junior H, performed on October 28, 2025, at the Palenque of the October Fiestas in Guadalajara, Jalisco. During the concert, he sang songs like 'El Azul', a collaboration with Peso Pluma that alludes to Juan José Esparragoza Moreno, alias 'El Azul', a Sinaloa Cartel drug trafficker, and references Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán. He also performed 'El hijo mayor', which mentions Édgar Guzmán López, 'El Chapo's son killed in 2008.

These performances violated Jalisco's ban on reproducing music that glorifies violence or organized crime in public events. The Attorney General's Office of the State of Jalisco opened an investigation file for alleged glorification of crime, under article 142 of the Jalisco Penal Code, which imposes one to six months in prison on anyone who publicly provokes a crime or glorifies it. If the crime is committed, the provoker receives the corresponding penalty for their participation.

On November 11, 2025, Junior H appeared before the Vice Prosecutor's Office for Specialized Investigation in Social Concertación, accompanied by lawyers. The Prosecutor's Office fined the singer 33,000 pesos, though a larger sanction of around 400,000 pesos was not applied because the new Income Law has not yet taken effect. The mayor of Zapopan, Juan José Frangie Saade, banned Junior H from performances in the municipality, stating: "This person will not be able to sing in Zapopan again, he can sing elsewhere, but not here".

State and municipal authorities prohibited any concert by Junior H in Jalisco, despite a performance scheduled for November 16 at the Nuevo Progreso Bullring in Guadalajara. Before appearing, the artist posted a statement on social media apologizing: "During my recent performance in Guadalajara, with the emotion and impulse on stage, I performed songs that in the current context are not appropriate (...) With deep respect for the authorities of Jalisco, I offer my sincerest apologies and wish to have their support for the next performance". He committed to singing only love and heartbreak songs going forward.

Junior H's statement will be added to the investigation, which will be judicialized once sufficient elements are gathered. This case follows similar incidents, such as that of Los Alegres del Barranco in April 2025, where images of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, 'El Mencho', leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, were shown.
