A 59-year-old man in Kentucky faces charges after authorities found his wife's remains inside his home during a welfare check.

John George Emrich was arrested on June 19 by Hardin County Sheriff's Office deputies at a residence on Homestead Avenue.

Emrich told officers that his wife had died in February, roughly four months before the discovery. The cause of death remains unknown and the woman has not been publicly identified.

He has been charged with abuse of a corpse, a Class D felony in Kentucky that carries a possible five-year prison sentence. Emrich is being held in the Hardin County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
