Magdeburg main station named station of the year 2025

Magdeburg's main railway station has been named Station of the Year 2025. A jury praised the renovation, particularly for improving dwell quality and connection mobility. This marks the fourth such award for Saxony-Anhalt.

Magdeburg's main railway station has received a 'remarkable upgrade' over the past ten years, as stated by the ten-member jury of the Allianz pro Schiene e.V. The award as Station of the Year 2025 was announced in a press release from the transport alliance. The jury particularly highlighted the categories of dwell quality and connection mobility following a comprehensive renovation.

'New access points ensure short walks to trams and buses, fresh colors and green oases make the station friendlier and enhance dwell quality,' the jury reasoned. The Cologne Square has been redesigned with seating areas, green spaces, and a bicycle parking garage with 250 spaces. Final works are ongoing, and the square will be accessible from December 10, according to Deutsche Bahn.

Further strengths include cleanliness, numerous shopping options, a play corner in the waiting area, and overall high dwell quality. All platforms are barrier-free accessible via elevators. The Allianz pro Schiene has been awarding the title since 2004 from the passengers' perspective. The jury includes representatives from the Verkehrsclub Deutschland, the Pro Bahn passenger association, and the Deutsche Bahnkunden-Verband.

This is the fourth Station-of-the-Year award for Saxony-Anhalt: Previously, the main stations in Halle (Saale) in 2023, Lutherstadt Wittenberg in 2017, and Halberstadt in 2011 were honored.
